How to Fail at Saturday

6 02 2010

Buying bobbins that are advertised to fit one’s sewing machine, but are actually totally different and don’t fit at all?

FAIL

Spending Saturday night pulling little bits of munched up thread out of the inner workings of one’s sewing machine with tweezers and a little torch?

EPIC FAIL

My life sucks today and someone, somewhere, deserves a slapping. That is all.

I Can Do Magic

14 01 2010

My latest trick is called

“How to make 2 days disappear”

Step 1: Purcahse 1 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle on a whim from Papamoa Paper Plus because you have an expiring gift card on Wednesday morning

Step 2: Complete said puzzle, full of grass and sky, stopping only briefly to eat and sleep.

Step 3: Emerge victorious on Thursday evening, just in time to Watch Harry potter on TV while eating chocolate buttons.

See.

Magic.

Happy New Year One and All

4 01 2010

Now, I am not normally one for “New Year’s Resolutions”.  They generally fall over before one has even seen the back of January.  But I’ve had this small niggle, eating away at me, for nearly 7 years.

It looks a little something like this

And I will finish it if it near kills me, I swear.

I have cold mashed potatos for brains

4 11 2009

And overcooked burssel sprouts

And boiled cabbage

And pureed cauliflower

And anything else that pretends to be food but tastes so bad its clearly poison.

Exams are also poison.

Study = DO NOT WANT

And I agreed to walk up the Mount tonight.  There I go with that ‘no brains’ thing again.

Crafty Goodness

What’s kept me amused for the past couple of evenings:

P1020427

Coasters!

You can see a bit better in this pic, they’re even kinda like, quilted!

P1020428

Reversible – black with white spots on one side and white with black spots on the other

And prettied up and ready to be off to their new home!

P1020429

There’s a layer of quilting cotton on each side, preshrunk as I didn’t want them to warp if they ever had to be washed (and the washability of them really is half the point of a cloth coaster, isn’t it!), and inside 2 layers of microfleece to help create the quilted look, and provide surfaces with protction fom moisture and heat!

Stitched, turned, and topstitched around in squares to ‘quilt’.

I was going to quilt hearts and/or stars, but in my trials found it too difficult to get them right as I only have a plain sewing machine, not a fancy embroidering or quilting one.

They measure approx 10.5 x 10.5 cm (or approx 4″ x 4″)

You Know … When …

8 10 2009

You know you need to stop wearing old bras that are 3 cup sizes too small (When was I ever a B anyway??) when nipples keep escaping out the top of the cups!

Horsing Around

6 10 2009

Both kids today had their first horse ride.  Caitlyn has been going on about it since it was arranged last week, and has been going on about it since we got home this afternoon.  We even got Oliver up on the horse!  I didn’t think he’d even be willing to give it a go, let alone go for a wee ride without freaking out.

I think it helped that he saw all the other kids having a go first ; )

He’s very aware of being a “big boy” now, and doesn’t like to miss out, so that element of peer-pressure is often all he needs to kick him into stepping outside of his comfort zone.

Ross wants to take them to our friend’s farm in Tokoroa for a go on a motorbike!

So the big kid’s book is a hit!  Caitlyn is loving, positively devouring, Charlotte’s Web.

The plan was to do a chapter every night, but she adores it so much that when there’s 2 shorter chapters we read 2 ; )

So I need suggestions for more books.

Ross has suggested Bad Jelly the Witch, which I have never read although I know of it and who it is by so find it in the library I shall, and I own a copy of Anne of Green Gables.  If I haven’t rehomed it, I also have a copy of Amy at the Bakery which is right at her level.

So what do you do on a dreary Monday, with no great plans?

Haircut!

From the School Holidays Files

28 09 2009

I am half way through my first day of school holidays.

And I’ve not killed my daughter yet.

And only had one fleeting moment of wanting to.  Be proud of me, this is an acheivement.

So far today we’ve:

Hauled ass outta bed just after 7am, which given Daylight Savings time has just begun, is more of an acheivment than it sounds!

Taken Oliver to daycare

Thrown a hissy fit at the evil Kirby (OK that was just me…)

Driven all the way to Papamoa to get big girl books from the ibrary

Read half of a big girl book

Eaten lunch and ridden bikes (OK the bike thing was just her…)

So that’s me all out of ideas, 9 1/2 days left.
